Focus On Jesus, First – That’s What Storms Are Meant To Teach Us

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Philippians 1:6

“Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey.”
Lyric from Trust and Obey Christian hymn by By John Sammis and Daniel Towner

When I focus on the storms in life, I can quickly be overtaken by anxiety – I was raised to react this way.  I’m sure this is one of the loving reasons God had me get saved in the first place.  Showing me to focus on Him, first, is such an important part of God’s “good work” in me.  It’s one of the biggest ways He’s healing my soul from harmful past generational sins and strongholds.  It enables me to learn that I really can rest in His faithfulness.

I love how God uses the storms of life to teach us to focus on Him, first (Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn – The Storm King).  God really does work all things together for the good of those who love Him, even the beautiful lessons storms can bring.  He’ll take our love for Him and transform our lives, inside-out, as He teaches us to focus on Him, first.  What a wonderful Heavenly Father we have.  Always changing us from glory to glory as He makes us strong in the power of His ways, His might.

Stormy?  That’s okay.  I’m finding out that storms in life are just more opportunities for Jesus to teach me to focus on Him, first.  Knowing (believing) that He works all things together for my good allows me to live in His faithfulness, His rest – Him, first. ☺

Oh The Shear Ecstasy Of The Holy Spirit’s Still, Small Voice

Your own ears will hear him (God).  Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21

7 The law of the Lord is perfect
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-10

Wow, is there anything like the blessings (great reward ☺) contained in Godly insights?  I just love it when the Holy Spirit speaks His loving, liberating truths into my life/soul.  His Presence and Words just bring me so much of His love, joy, peace, rest and comfort.  There’s nothing like His precious, still, small voice (1 Kings 19) as He calls to my heart, “Mark, this is the way, walk ye in it.”  And then the shear joy I have when my heart replies, “Yes, Lord, I see what You’re telling me, and the satisfying, soothing comfort Your Words of truth, about that area in my life You want to restore and bless, will bring.”

…By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

“Precious Jesus, help us by making us evermore hungry for more of You, and Your healing love.”

God bless,

Mark

We’ve Always Been Safe In The Arms Of Jesus

Happy Monday!

Another week of opportunities for God to show us His faithfulness and favor.

I really like to look at a picture we have in our living room (it’s the one below) of Jesus in the boat with His disciples as Jesus calms the storm that scared the disciples to death.  I like to put myself in their place in that storm-tossed, little boat.  Wow, it must have been amazing to have Jesus rebuke and stop the storm, stop the threat on their hearts and lives.  It would truly blow your mind that a man had such power and authority.  Looking around at the calmed seas, and then looking intently at Jesus, the man Who’d just told the storm to cease, it’s no wonder the men in the boat exclaimed,

“But the men marveled (Boy, I bet they did!), saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him (Jesus)!”
Matthew 8:27

I’ve felt the same way about Jesus when I’ve had a storm pop up in my life.  I’ve just marveled when I remembered my precious Savior’s promises to always be with me – that He has the power and authority to work all things together for my good, and that He’s always in control.  The storms just cease…

I read that some ladies having a Bible study were discussing the Las Vegas shooting.  One of the ladies said, “The world’s getting so crazy.  Where can one feel safe anymore?”  In the arms of Jesus.  It’s always been true of Jesus.  We’re safe in His arms.  That’s why we need to get to know Him intimately so we’ll always be near Him in the dwelling place of the Most High.  No storm in life is outside His power and authority – not one.

Always remember, come what may, we’re safe in the arms of Jesus.

Howard Morgan – How Christianity Went from Jewish to Pagan

Wow, when I heard the following youtube video, I rejoiced.  It made Christianity crystal clear and so simple…

I truly believe that God wants Christians to be in His Presence all week long – I believe it’s totally possible since that’s what the Word teaches.  This is the blessing of being His child.  We are no longer to be conformed to this world – double-minded, or anxious and worldly some of the time and having His peace some of the time.  Because we’re now “born-again,” we can walk (live) in newness of life and trust God’s lead for our lives.

When I heard Messianic Jew, Howard Morgan speak on the Sid Roth program, I thought, “Yes, that’s it,” that’s where we’ve missed it in the western world.  I really hope you’ll take the time to listen to what Howard says in the youtube video below.  God wants so much to transform our lives so that we can live with His truths in our lives all the time.

How Christianity Went from Jewish to Pagan | Howard Morgan

To summarize what Howard shared:  (1.) God’s purpose is to bring us back to Him.  This is what life is all about.  He wants us to practice the feasts to remind us of what’s coming for us in the beautiful future He has in store for us.  He desires that we come back into relationship with Him, to be the light of the world by (2.) helping each other (as fellow Christians, as husbands and wives, and families and friends) grow in Him, (3.) and to proclaim that the Messiah is coming.

Howard (really, God did) makes Christianity so simple (simple as 1-2-3 above), and it’s available to us.  I love it.

Loving Ann And Loving Jesus Go Hand In Hand

I hope I can clearly convey this simple and beautiful heavenly principle God’s blessing us with.  Personally, I sense that I’m only beginning to understand how wonderful it is for the Lord to show me how to better understand and love my wife.  That one little word, love, is packed with a universe of blessings for our lives.

I want to learn all I can about how to love my precious wife better because the Lord keeps speaking to my heart that Ann and I will receive more heavenly blessings in our souls by me learning how to love her more.

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.  11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-11

God wants to bless husbands and wives by having men love their wives with the insights Christ gives them.

It’s the neatest thing.  I’m finding that the more I love my wife (Ann) in action (protecting her emotions, her heart, loving her in word and deed, being gentle with her, making sure she has what she needs from me and Jesus spiritually, physically, emotionally), the more I love her in my own heart (my love for her grows), the more affection and compassion I have in my heart for her, the more I appreciate her and want to be with her to share every moment with her.  And, by loving her, my own heart settles down and I have more faith, peace, rest and joy.

It’s the same with my relationship with Jesus.  The more I surrender to Him, the more I follow Him and want to do what He wants me to (like learning more about forgiving, loving others with His love, casting all my cares on Him, praising Him, letting Him live through me…), the more I love Him with more and more of my heart.

I’m so thankful for my wife and all the wonderful ways God has blessed my life through her.  I learn so much about Jesus as He shows me how to love Ann better each day.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.  He who loves his wife loves himself.  29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.  31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
Ephesians 5:25-31

Everlasting Joy Shall Be Upon Their Head

Happy Monday!

Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head:  they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

What a wonderful promise from the Lord of Lords and King of Kings!

Heaven: Look Up

This depicted picture of Heaven is why God tells us to look up in Matthew chapter 24. ☺

Heaven is SO beautiful.  And seeing it will be just the beginning.  Our understanding of God’s love and relationship with us and each other will be taken to new levels that are beyond our comprehension on earth.

Have a nice, Heavenly weekend looking up more and more…

How To Stop “Bother”

The enemy of our souls loves to shoot “bothering” thoughts (the Bible calls these thoughts “fiery darts”) our way all day long.

Bothered?

When I’m bothered by something – anything, for that matter – I try to remember (Or the faithful Holy Spirit reminds me) to take the thought captive to the obedience of Christ.  If it’s a matter/task I need help with, I pray and ask God’s help and then let it go and move on knowing God will provide the help/answer I need.

This kind of brings to mind some soothing verses –

Be not afraid of sudden fear…

Casting all your care on Him for He careth for you.

Be still and know that I am God.

And let the peace of God reign in your heart.

Be careful (anxious) for nothing…

Amir Update and Encouragement

Amir Tsarfati is a pretty popular Messianic Jew.  He served as a commander in the IDF and speaks all over the world for Christ.  He are some of my own thoughts along with some of the highlights from one of his recent youtube prophecy updates.  I put the youtube link to Amir’s recent update below.

*******

In 1 Thessalonians 5:3 (the entire 5th chapter is timely), the Bible speaks of the inevitable “sudden destruction” coming upon the earth.  Lately, God’s been speaking to my (Mark) heart about how people today are going about life as if everything will just continue on as normal everyday life – as in the days of Noah before the flood took them away.  But, He’s been showing me how life will not keep going on and that people are going to be totally caught off-guard by what is about to happen.  It will be all of a “sudden.”

In light of today’s world events, God is trying to get everyone’s attention.  He wants them to answer the ultimate question, “Do you believe?”

Russia, Iran and Israel’s other enemies are sounding a lot these days like the Old Testament enemy kings of Israel.  They’re making threats and planning Israel’s demise.  We all remember what happened in the Old Testament when God destroyed Israel’s enemies, and the destruction He will bring against Israel’s current enemies (See Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39 in the Bible’s Old Testament).

This week, Iranian Generals said the date of Israel’s destruction is already set.  We all know Iran is building up military bases in Syria in an effort to attack Israel from there.

Nothing can stop God’s plan for earth.  End times will come and take place just as Bible prophecy states.  This is why we must be ready for Christ’s return.

When people ask you what you think about what’s happening on earth right now, tell them about Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39.  Say, “That’s what I believe is happening.”

Now…

As Christians, we need not to look at worldly events from a perspective of earthly citizens.  We need to look at them from the perspective of Heavenly citizens.  We receive citizenship from Heaven.  What’s taking place on earth right now should greatly encourage us as Christians because we know where we’re going and that our Redeemer lives.  This is not a time for fear.  Far from it.  This is a time for great rejoicing in our Lord and King.

As Unto The Lord

It’s so cool.  After talking about the following, my wife experienced it at work.  God showed her how to apply it to her work and she relaxed in her spirit even though she had to work hard all day long. ☺

Jesus is able to redeem all things in our lives if we’ll continue to seek Him and to let Him change us from glory to glory.

There’s nothing like the supernatural, attractive, invigorating Presence of the Holy Spirit when He speaks to our hearts.  All else loses its importance and grip on our beings as He touches our lives with His pure love from above.

I really hope I can convey this beautiful, liberating message the Holy Spirit shared last week with me while “working.” ☺

Regarding the following, please understand that I know it’s a good thing to be a good, hard, honest worker…

23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men (if I was working unto men, I was stressed out about it, I was being conformed to this world); 24 Knowing that of the Lord (I wanted it from men) ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance:  for ye serve (I’ve wanted to be served and to Lord it over others) the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24

24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26 But ye shall not be so:  but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve (when we serve the Lord, we’re free to enjoy Him keeping us instead of us keeping us).
Luke 20:24-26

For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition (strife in other versions), there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
James 3:16

Working As Unto The Lord:  What Does It Entail?

The Protestant Work Ethic and Working As Unto The Lord

Wow, this was such a huge blessing when the Holy Spirit talked to me about it the other day – And, He keeps bringing it up so I know it must be really important and timely.

I want so much to live in the freedom of this message.  It’s so amazing to think that Jesus could really do this much of a work in us.

I don’t remember how it came up the other day, but I got to thinking about the Protestant Work Ethic (from an early age, I wanted to strive to get ahead, to work and be proud of what I’d accomplished – my health issues have interrupted my goals and desires to provide for my family, and to achieve, and it’s been frustrating) when the Holy Spirit began speaking to me about it.

I was raised to work hard, to worry, be anxious, to take on the care, pressure and responsibility, and to get stressed out about work and complain about it just like everybody else is supposed to do in this world.  I heard things like, “The early bird gets the worm,” etc.  I saw my own father working this way for my great uncle’s Christian organization.  And, I wanted the same prestige and paybacks for being a hard worker that I saw others receiving.  But, no matter how early I got up, no matter how hard I worked, I could not get ahead and it really frustrated me.

I never could understand why people (all of us) could be like Jesus for parts of their lives and weeks, and then act like the world at other times.  Wasn’t it possible to live close to Jesus all the time?  How could that happen?  How could God show us He wanted us to have peace and to trust and rest in Him all the time?

Well, the other day the Lord began speaking to my heart.  Jesus does not only want me (us) to be with Him on the weekends or in our morning devotion times.  He wants me to walk in His Presence all week long.  Now, I knew that but I never could reconcile that with today’s work environment.  I mean, how can anyone have God’s Presence on the weekend and at home and truly expect to be able to carry that over into the job market?  Is that possible?

That’s about the time Jesus spoke to my heart…

“Mark, you know all the verses I gave you while living in Oregon and how they were chosen specifically to bring you to My peace, joy, rest and love, to “keep” you, right?”  “Yes, Jesus.”  “Well, I want you to know that working as unto Me means that you can work free from the pressure the world experiences in their work.  I want you to know that you can let Me lead you to the work I want you to do and I will bless you in it.  You will not have to strive in it because you’ll be working as unto Me, not men.  You can let go of all of the responsibility and care of work and work as unto Me, with My peace, with My Presence, with My help guiding you.  I know you, what you wrestle with, how anxiety and trying to live up to expectations has been really difficult for you.  I don’t put worldly pressures on you.  I don’t cause you to compete (there’s plenty of room in my Kingdom for everyone’s work without competition so they really can relax in Me), to fret, to be prideful, to worry, to carry all that weight.  No, what I have for you is rest, peace, and joy in working.  I want you to have My joy in all of your life, especially in the work I give you.  I want you to be able to let My peace rule in your heart while at work.  I want you to not be afraid of sudden fear at work.  I want you to cast all your burdens on me even at work.  I don’t want you to be careful about anything, and that includes work.”

I hope you see how wonderful this is.  Our Supernatural God is able to “keep” us all week long, even in our work.

Boy, I just sat here letting that soak into my heart.  What an incredible time it was.  And, the Lord just keeps emphasizing it in my heart.  I love it when He does this sort of thing because it means He will allow me/us to “walk” (live it) in it if I’ll continue to surrender my will to Him and His wonderful plan for my life.

28 Come unto me (Jesus), all ye (anyone) that labour (working or handling life in my own strength) and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me (it’s so sweet to learn from and about Jesus and all He has for us); for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

Oh, precious Jesus…Lord to me.  Please let nothing stand in the way of me learning to let You guide me into “working as unto You,” in complete rest, so I can be free in You all week long.  Precious Holy Spirit, come and minister this beautiful truth to my heart.

God bless,

Mark

Defeat Compromise

Happy Monday!

The following are some thoughts Annie and I had this morning during our coffee time together.  The Holy Spirit really ministered to us and reminded us of how important these topics and commands are for us in Christ.

*******

I want all the freedom Christ died on the cross to make available to me…All of it.  I do not want to live with any compromise, and chains the enemy tries to bind me with.  None.  There’s way too much at stake here.

My wife woke up telling me about how important it is to take thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ.  She said, “You’re serious about this aren’t you Mark?”  She was having a real understanding from the Lord about how serious it is to take enemy thoughts captive.

What do I value in this life more than my freedom in Christ?  The enemy can lull us away from our victory and liberty in Jesus.  He can tempt us with the smallest compromise (and there are many ways he gets us to begin a journey down the compromising road) like when we’re not taking the devil’s thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ.

The ultimate brain fog is to take thoughts from the enemy, to live with satan’s thoughts so we become his slaves and turn away from the liberty Jesus has for us by taking enemy thoughts captive to Christ.

Be strong and of a good courage…Only be thou strong and very courageous…Have I (God) not commanded thee?  Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:  For the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest…Only be strong and of a good courage.
From Joshua Chapter 1

Look up!  We win!

So much is going on these days regarding end times events and, as Jesus said would occur, the end times events are really speeding up.  Jesus also told us to look up when we see these things begin to take place – Matthew chapter 24.  We’re way past “begin” and on our way to Heaven.  Praise God!

Be sure to protect your heart by “looking up.”  Looking up to Jesus and Heaven keeps us from being weighed down with earthly things and brings great encouragement and joy.  Hallelujah!

Thank you, Jesus, for being our ark in these last days as our redemption draws nearer and nearer.

Favorite Things and Being Grateful

Boy, I sure get blessed and lifted up listening to the following Marty Nystrom playlist.  Takes me into Jesus’ Presence. ☺

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZKm6-3d7Bw

I’m just so thankful and grateful to have been saved by believing in Jesus.  No words can express my heartfelt thanks to Him.

Don’t know why, but I was thinking about the “Sound of Music” movie the other day and started thinking about some of my own favorite things.  These are a few of my favorite things…Loving on and encouraging people with the daily CJED emails; helping people to believe in Romans 8:28, to take thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ and to be thankful and praising God in all things.  I also like listening to good Bible teaching, Christian music and books, loving my wife and talking with her about Jesus, looking in the eyes of my wife and kids, reading the Bible, listening to the Bible on youtube, looking up (our redemption is drawing very near), Christian movies, etc.

It’s so good to let the Lord show you all the things He’s blessed you with – your favorite things.

Frustrating Obstacles Or God’s Protection?

The Strange Case Of West Side Baptist
By Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn

On March 1, 1950, choir practice was scheduled for 7:20pm at the West Side Baptist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska.  Most of the choir members normally arrived around 7:15.  The pastor, about to head to church with his wife, discovered that his daughter’s dress needed changing.  A man named Harry Ahl was going to take his two boys to practice, but got lost in a conversation, forgetting the time.  One high school girl needed to finish her homework.  Two sisters were ready, but their car wouldn’t start.  The pianist, Marilyn Paul, fell asleep and so she and her mother both arrived much later than usual.  Joy Black, just feeling lazy, waited until the last minute.  All 15 members of the choir were hindered from being on time.  At 7:25pm, due to a gas leak, there was an explosion and the church was destroyed.  The choir members would’ve been killed, except that they were all strangely late.  Therefore, rejoice today and thank God is faith for those problems and obstacles you’ve been frustrated about.  Because who knows that you won’t find out someday that they were the very things that saved your life.

Today’s Mission:  Today, when you face an obstacle, a challenge, or a hindrance you’ve been frustrated about, do something new – rejoice!

Because you (God) are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
Psalm 63:7

God bless each of you,

Mark

I Was Jesus-Deprived

It seems so funny to me now that I used to have so much pride.  Pride kept me from seeing and enjoying so much of God’s Kingdom of light.  I always had a gnawing sense that I was competing with everyone else, even other Christians, on so many levels.  These days, I want to stay as far away as I can from pride.

Humility is so wonderful.  It just feels so right in my spirit and keeps me open to Jesus and the Holy Spirit and all the liberty and life They have for me.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:  of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21

I used to have a Jesus-deprived life.  My life had a lot of the works of the flesh operating in it and, as a result, I had little real peace, love, contentment, rest and joy.  I couldn’t accept the fact that God was in control of my life and that I could really trust Him all the time.  I’ve come to know that life’s better with Jesus in it.  The fruit of the Spirit can replace the works of the flesh if we’ll humbly keep asking (and cooperating with) the Holy Spirit to continue His work in us.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Galatians 5:22-26

God bless,

Mark

A Reminder About Whose We Are

1 “Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say:  ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:  I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal.  2 I (God) will turn you around and drag you along.  I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel.  3 Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand.  4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you.  I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.  5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord. 6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel 39:1-6

I hear so much about how Islam plans to completely destroy Israel.  I saw a map of Israel’s land in comparison to the land the Muslim nations occupy – Quite an overwhelming contrast in the natural.  It reminded me that it doesn’t matter what I’m up against, no matter how large the problem or enemy threat, God’s with me.  And, as is the case with tiny Israel, that’s all that matters.

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved:  he (God) that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper:  the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:  he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Psalm 121

Is it any wonder why we worship this loving God who watches over and protects us, why we can’t help but love and seek more and more of our Heavenly Father? ☺

God bless,

Mark

Heaven Will Never Be Boring

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:  but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as he is.
1 John 3:2

Heaven Will Never Be Boring
By Dave Radford

What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived—
the things God has prepared for those who love Him.

Have you ever worried that you might grow bored in heaven, that things may lose their luster or taste, that the whole novelty and intrigue of heaven might fade as do most things on earth?  When you sing, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years . . . we’ve no less days to sing his praise than when we’d first begun,” do you wonder whether or not to be encouraged by such a statement?

Sure, eternal life sounds wonderful at first.  But unless you have a firm grasp on what the Bible has to say about eternal life, you may begin to wonder. “Eternity really is a long time,” you might think.  “Is this something I really desire?  After ten million years, will I really have the same desire I once had to go on existing here?”  At the heart of these existential questions lies a deep concern for whether eternal joy actually exists.

If at this point Jonathan Edwards were still alive and knew what you were thinking, he would probably put his hand on your shoulder and lay your fears to rest.

In his sermon, “Heaven, A World Of Love,” Jonathan Edwards — in a way that is nothing short of breath-taking — brilliantly unpacks the staggering realities of our joy in heaven.

Here are just a few of these realities:

1. You Will Have Greater Capacity for Joy

In heaven, your resurrected body will come equipped with unimaginable capacity for joy (1 Corinthians 15:42–44).

The Bible says you will have a resurrected body far better than anything you knew on earth.  Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15, says that your body will be stronger, fuller, more spiritual, more glorious, and everlasting.  Your delight, your knowledge, your intellect, and all your affections will be renewed and restored so that you might enjoy Christ with perfected bodies.  Edwards states:  “[Our earthly soul] had only a little spark of divine love in it, in heaven shall be, as it were, turned into a bright and ardent flame, like the sun in its fullest brightness, when it has no spot upon it.”

So far so good.  An enormous amount of joy.  But that still doesn’t solve the problem of complacency.  Isn’t it still possible that the joy will fizzle out? Edwards, again, would say:  “No way!”

2. You Will Have an Ever-Increasing Capacity for Joy

In heaven, your capacity for joy will never cease to grow.

Never.  According to Edwards, you will be “enraptured with joys that are forever increasing, and yet forever full.”

Sam Storms argues that your capacity for love, knowledge, understanding, and yes, joy are “ever-expansive, progressive, incremental” (“Joy’s Eternal Increase”).  Never-ending.  The implications of this are staggering.

First, it pummels any idea of heaven becoming boring, static, or all-too-familiar.  How can it?  If your ability to enjoy God and his gifts are always expanding, your perception of heaven will always be fuller, deeper, and richer.  You will never look upon the same reality twice without some new way in which to enjoy it.  You will look at each day through some new lens, where you see more clearly, understand more fully, and feel more deeply the truest joy — ever-increasing, ever-full joy for all eternity.

How, you may ask, is this possible?  Won’t you run out of things to enjoy after ten million years?  Again, Edwards would say:  “No!”  Why not?

3. You Worship an Infinite God

Because God is infinite, He can be infinitely enjoyed.  Jesus Christ is not concerned about running out of ways to keep up with your ever-increasing ability to enjoy Him.  His character is endlessly deep, unsearchable, and inexhaustible.  Imagine the scope of the entire universe:  trillions of shining stars, burning brighter than the sun; magnificent constellations; billions of spinning galaxies, all magnificent and vast, colorful and mysterious.  Yet, they are finite.  Brilliant, though they are, they fall utterly short in comparison to the breadth, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ.  His love, grace, kindness, wisdom, power, and mercy each stand as never-ending, infinite universes for all your affections to delight in.

Here’s the other cool bit.  If God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him, the ever-increasing enjoyment of God for all eternity will simultaneously become the ever-increasing glorification of Himself.  This is genius!

Now when you sing, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years,” you have no need of dread or doubt.  You will not be the same person as you once were.  After ten thousand years, you will look back and say, “How little I knew of Him then.  How much I have grown in my love for Him.  Yet, how much more I still have yet to know of His character!”  Further up and further into it you grow!

After ten thousand years, you will look back and say, “How little I knew of Him!”

C.S. Lewis once defined joy in this life as “an unsatisfied desire, more desirable than any satisfaction.”  I think he’s right.  God doesn’t want your hope to be in this life but in the life to come.  He wants you to long for your homecoming, when you meet Him face to face.  When you do this, you have access to a joy “more desirable than any satisfaction” here and now.  Pray, then, for an ever-increasing capacity to know and enjoy Him as you long for eternity.

God: “I Got This.”

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10a

It’s as if God is saying to me, “Please, my son, be still because I’m God and I’ll always watch over and keep you.”

It’s so wonderful and soothing to say the Name, “Jesus.”  Doing so reminds me that I can be still and remember that He is God.  I can have peace because He’s in control and wants to remind me of that glorious, beautiful truth.

Thank You, Jesus.

God bless,

Mark

God’s Favor Makes The Difference

The Faith Attitude
By Joyce Meyer

But the Lord was with Joseph, and showed him mercy and lovingkindness and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison.
Genesis 39:21

Although Joseph was being punished unfairly because he was jailed for something he didn’t do, the Lord was still with him giving him supernatural favor and taking care of him.  He proved that a person is really not in too bad a shape, even if he ends up in prison, if God gives him favor.

No matter what happens to us in life, we can have favor with God and with other people (Luke 2:52).  But like so many good things in life, just because something is available to us does not mean that we will partake of it.  The Lord makes many things available to us that we never receive and enjoy because we never activate our faith.

For example, if we go to a job interview confessing fear and failure, we will almost be assured not to get the job.  On the other hand, even if we apply for a job we know we aren’t fully qualified for, we can still go in confidence, believing that God will give us favor in every situation that is His will.

God doesn’t want us to be afraid of the hardships we face in life.  He is in control, and He will work all things out for our good if we love and trust Him.

Joseph maintained a good attitude in a bad situation.  He had a “faith attitude,” and God gave him favor.

*******

It doesn’t matter where we are, what others think of us or say about us.  When we have God’s favor, we will find that His leading and protection are all we need in life.  Don’t despair.  Keep resting in God’s favor and trusting that He’s in control.  He’ll show us the way.

God bless,

Mark
