Heaven

And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.
Revelation 21:23

Wow.  Isn’t that something?  No need for the sun because God illuminates the city.  Heaven and eternity with the Father and Jesus is going to be filled with new sights, sounds, experiences, peace, love and joy no one can imagine, and that will never end.

No longer will the sun be your light by day, and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your splendor.
Isaiah 60:19

Heavenly Friday

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect
Hebrews 12:22-23

Yipee!  It’s Heavenly Friday.  Yes, it’s okay to think about Heaven the rest of the week as well.  ☺

So many distractions keep us from dwelling on Heaven.  Making money so we can pay our bills, health items, traffic, religion, politics, wars and rumors of war, family matters, hurts, loss, pride, insecurities, concerned about the future, keeping up with the Joneses, etc.  In Heaven, we’ll just have Heaven to occupy our time.  We’ll be face to face, hug-to-hug and have long conversations with He Who is The Way, The Truth and The Life, Jesus.  And we’ll have all of eternity to love on each other…Sounds good to me.

Take time to think about Heaven.  It can really rejuvenate us.

Have a nice, Heavenly weekend.

Just wanted to remind all of us that Jesus has already been through all of our tomorrows.  We can trust in Him, in His leading.  He’s always with us and will always see us through.  He’s promised to never leave us nor forsake us.  Never.

Take time to think about that for a while.  It really does our hearts good to remember the faithfulness of our dear Savior and best friend, Jesus.

Jesus:  “Come walk with Me today and I’ll show you all of the wonderful things I have in store for you, more faith, love, trust, peace, compassion, understanding, rest and joy.”

I love you all.

Jesus, He’s the joy of Heaven…

Heaven

Then as I (the Apostle John) looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast.  The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”  And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.  The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian.  And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.  Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them.  They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads.  From the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder.  And in front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames.  This is the sevenfold Spirit of God.  In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.

In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back.  The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.  Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out.  Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever).  And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,

“You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
Revelation Chapter 4

Believe me, when we’re raptured, we won’t have earthly things on our minds.  We won’t be concerned with these things like we’re tempted to be now.  We won’t think about the chance of the “loss” of anything we have now on earth at that time.  Instead, when we see Jesus face to face, all that will fill us is all that we now have with Him in Heaven.  We will never be tempted with “separation” ever again.  We are with Him forever.  Knowing my God, and how loving and kind He is, I can tell you up front that we will understand more of His love and compassion when we see Him face to face.  So, I don’t believe that we need to be concerned about these (loss) things right now.  (Taken from Amir Tsarfati Q & A Session For July 2018 – Edited)

I was listening to something yesterday when I could sense what the atmosphere around Jesus’ coming back to earth will be like.  It was so impressive and overpowering and wonderful.  It was like the best feeling you’ve ever had in your life, you’re more alive and attentive, and it was enhanced by a new kind of all-consuming reality that Jesus is real, that the Bible is real, and that the heavenly realm is about to visit the earth.  It was so outside this everyday life and existence, it stops you in your tracks, is so refreshing and exciting.  It’s going to really be something…

For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:  all things were created by him, and for him:  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Colossians 1:16-17

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:3-11

Heaven: When I Look Into Your Holiness

A friend recently asked Jesus into their heart.  I loved their comment about realizing/seeing God with their heart for the first time.  They said, “I never knew God’s love like this before now.”  It was so precious.  God has His incredible love ready to pour out on anyone who will look into His holiness, when all things around us become shadows in the light of Him.  Nothing like our loving Heavenly Father…

When I look Into Your Holiness – The Maranatha Singers

When I look into Your holiness
When I gaze into Your loveliness
When all things that surround become shadows
In the light of You

When I’ve found the joy of reaching Your heart
When my will becomes enthroned in Your love
When all things that surround become shadows
In the light of You

I worship You

Heaven: When It’s All Been Said And Done

Resolution One:  I will live for God.  Resolution Two:  If no one else does, I still will.   Jonathan Edwards

In my own life, I’ve found true rest, peace, joy, mercy, grace, and love when I’m surrendered to Jesus and followed the promptings of the Holy Spirit.  When it’s all said and done, life’s pretty simple.  It may not always be easy to follow Jesus, but it is simple.

When It’s All Been Said And Done
Words and Music by Jim Cowan, Sung by Don Moen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ0yrIjsJwU

When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for truth?
Did I live my life for You?

When it’s all been said and done
All my treasures will mean nothing
Only what I’ve done
For love’s reward
Will stand the test of time

Lord, Your mercy is so great
That You look beyond our weakness
And find purest gold in miry clay
Turning sinners into saints

I will always sing Your praise
Here on earth and ever after
For You’ve shown me heaven’s my true home
When it’s all been said and done
You’re my life when life is gone

Lord, I live my life for You!  I can never thank You enough for Your grace & mercy and Your love for me.  I will always sing praises to You and You alone.   My life is a gift from You and it’s Yours; please use it for Your glory and according to Your will.

“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.  For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:20-21

“If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.  So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

I heard Amir Tsarfati say that, just as in Noah’s day, we should be focusing on the ark (Jesus) instead of the flood (the coming storm of the end times).  This is what Christ meant when He told us to look up when we see all these things (end times events mentioned in Matthew chapter 24) begin to take place.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:  because he trusteth in thee.

When we arrive in Heaven, one day, it’s going to be incredible to hear Jesus say to us –

His lord said unto him, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant:  thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:  enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
Matthew 25:21

The other day, it hit me that people are in Heaven right now.  They’re there with Jesus.  Right now.  That’s fun to think on for a while…

Victory in Jesus lyric taken from “Victory in Jesus” Christian hymn by Eugene Bartlett

Heaven

1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place.  He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.  3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia:  Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever!  Amen.

7 “Look, he is coming with the clouds,”
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”
So shall it be!  Amen.

8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.  10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,  11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches:  to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me.  And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.  14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.  15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.  16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.  Then he placed his right hand on me and said:  “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.  18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!  And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later.
Revelation 1:1-19

I know this isn’t the typical Heavenly Friday email, but Ann and I were so surprised by the insights the Holy Spirit showed us about in one of our daily devotionals today that I had to write about it.  God is setting us free and we want to share it with all who have ears to hear.

“So Heavenly-minded that you’re no earthly good.”  Wow, what a lie mankind has swallowed.

What lie(s) has and keeps you bound?  Will you do whatever it takes to get honest with yourself?  With God?

Every day, we choose life or death, Heaven or hell. It’s true.  I know it is because God intervened in my life and showed me the difference my choices were making.  I could keep living with the torment and oppression of the devil’s lies, or I could step out of that prison and into God’s light.  I was so miserable and wiped out from living under the lies the enemy had planted in me that I was not going to be able to go on with life.  Thankfully, God knew what it would take to get me to look up, to do anything to get to Him.  God began to remove the fog of deception I was living in and under.

Am I willing to stay bound?  Wow, I don’t think so.  Not since I’ve tasted some of the freedom Christ has shown me.  One word stood in the way of me being set free.  Willing.  Satan will do everything to keep us from “willing.”

I didn’t think the sin I was living with was that big of a deal until God began to set me free.  I think that’s how it is for most of us.

Boy, to be carnally-minded really hit home to us this morning during our devotional time.  Satan has us so focused on the things of earth and has us captive in generational strongholds and harmful behaviors that we don’t have time to be Heavenly-minded.  We’re so fooled that we’ll even defend our carnally-trapped lives – This is how I was and I know it can be true of any of us.  Pastor John Courson was so right when he said, “We’re no earthly good until we become Heavenly-minded.”  Adam and Eve sinned and suddenly looked at themselves.  Their focus came off Heaven and their Father, the liberty they enjoyed in Him.  Now, their attention was enslaved to satan’s kingdom of carnality with all its wickedness, all the lies he’s made sure we continue to live with that are choking us off, dividing us, killing us.  I’m not even able to write down all of the thoughts the Holy Spirit’s giving us about this.  It goes so deep.

We need to get back to our Heavenly relationship with our Father.  We need to come to God and ask His help to show us all the baggage we’ve been duped into carrying that’s weighing us down.  Jesus died to set us free so His truth, His way, and His life could set us free, indeed. “Jesus, I don’t want to live bound.  I want to be free, I want to go back to Eden, to You.  Interrupt my life to the point that I want You and so that I’ll be willing to do whatever it takes to depart from whatever has me bound.  Help me by showing me how I’ve been deceived.  Show me all the knots and lies that have kept me from seeing You and all you have for me as Your child.  Oh, dear Jesus, stop at nothing until I’m willing to let go of the carnality operating in me.  Clothe me in Your righteousness, Your right living that will so set me free that my strength will be renewed like the eagles.  Make me look up, Jesus, to all that You have for me.  I want You more than anything.”

Life’s all about getting back to the glorious liberty Jesus can give us by looking up if we’re willing to be set free by being transformed by getting back to being Heavenly-minded.

Heavenly Friday

After preparing a home for His bride, Jesus comes for His bride (the church on earth) as a thief in the night in the Bible.  The groom often surprised his bride by his unexpected or early return.  All Jewish brides were said to be “stolen, caught up, or snatched up by surprise.”  It was all a part of the excitement of being a bride…

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Be on guard! Be alert!  You do not know when that time will come.
Mark 13:32-33

Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:  “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.  Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him.  For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.
She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”  For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.  And the angel said to me, “Write this:  Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”  And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”
Revelation 19:6-9

Recently, I heard a really loving comment from someone who’d apparently died and gone to Heaven.  When the man was sent back to earth, he said that he saw Jesus saying to those in Heaven, “Tell me your story.”  It’s pretty neat to think of Jesus wanting us to tell Him our story.

It’s so loving to listen to people.

Jesus is interested in every detail of our life.  After all, He knows the stars by name and when every sparrow falls.  Take time to think about Heaven this weekend.

Heaven: Look Up

This depicted picture of Heaven is why God tells us to look up in Matthew chapter 24. ☺

Heaven is SO beautiful.  And seeing it will be just the beginning.  Our understanding of God’s love and relationship with us and each other will be taken to new levels that are beyond our comprehension on earth.

Have a nice, Heavenly weekend looking up more and more…

Look up!  We win!

So much is going on these days regarding end times events and, as Jesus said would occur, the end times events are really speeding up.  Jesus also told us to look up when we see these things begin to take place – Matthew chapter 24.  We’re way past “begin” and on our way to Heaven.  Praise God!

Be sure to protect your heart by “looking up.”  Looking up to Jesus and Heaven keeps us from being weighed down with earthly things and brings great encouragement and joy.  Hallelujah!

Thank you, Jesus, for being our ark in these last days as our redemption draws nearer and nearer.

Heaven Will Never Be Boring

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:  but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as he is.
1 John 3:2

Heaven Will Never Be Boring
By Dave Radford

What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived—
the things God has prepared for those who love Him.

Have you ever worried that you might grow bored in heaven, that things may lose their luster or taste, that the whole novelty and intrigue of heaven might fade as do most things on earth?  When you sing, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years . . . we’ve no less days to sing his praise than when we’d first begun,” do you wonder whether or not to be encouraged by such a statement?

Sure, eternal life sounds wonderful at first.  But unless you have a firm grasp on what the Bible has to say about eternal life, you may begin to wonder. “Eternity really is a long time,” you might think.  “Is this something I really desire?  After ten million years, will I really have the same desire I once had to go on existing here?”  At the heart of these existential questions lies a deep concern for whether eternal joy actually exists.

If at this point Jonathan Edwards were still alive and knew what you were thinking, he would probably put his hand on your shoulder and lay your fears to rest.

In his sermon, “Heaven, A World Of Love,” Jonathan Edwards — in a way that is nothing short of breath-taking — brilliantly unpacks the staggering realities of our joy in heaven.

Here are just a few of these realities:

1. You Will Have Greater Capacity for Joy

In heaven, your resurrected body will come equipped with unimaginable capacity for joy (1 Corinthians 15:42–44).

The Bible says you will have a resurrected body far better than anything you knew on earth.  Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15, says that your body will be stronger, fuller, more spiritual, more glorious, and everlasting.  Your delight, your knowledge, your intellect, and all your affections will be renewed and restored so that you might enjoy Christ with perfected bodies.  Edwards states:  “[Our earthly soul] had only a little spark of divine love in it, in heaven shall be, as it were, turned into a bright and ardent flame, like the sun in its fullest brightness, when it has no spot upon it.”

So far so good.  An enormous amount of joy.  But that still doesn’t solve the problem of complacency.  Isn’t it still possible that the joy will fizzle out? Edwards, again, would say:  “No way!”

2. You Will Have an Ever-Increasing Capacity for Joy

In heaven, your capacity for joy will never cease to grow.

Never.  According to Edwards, you will be “enraptured with joys that are forever increasing, and yet forever full.”

Sam Storms argues that your capacity for love, knowledge, understanding, and yes, joy are “ever-expansive, progressive, incremental” (“Joy’s Eternal Increase”).  Never-ending.  The implications of this are staggering.

First, it pummels any idea of heaven becoming boring, static, or all-too-familiar.  How can it?  If your ability to enjoy God and his gifts are always expanding, your perception of heaven will always be fuller, deeper, and richer.  You will never look upon the same reality twice without some new way in which to enjoy it.  You will look at each day through some new lens, where you see more clearly, understand more fully, and feel more deeply the truest joy — ever-increasing, ever-full joy for all eternity.

How, you may ask, is this possible?  Won’t you run out of things to enjoy after ten million years?  Again, Edwards would say:  “No!”  Why not?

3. You Worship an Infinite God

Because God is infinite, He can be infinitely enjoyed.  Jesus Christ is not concerned about running out of ways to keep up with your ever-increasing ability to enjoy Him.  His character is endlessly deep, unsearchable, and inexhaustible.  Imagine the scope of the entire universe:  trillions of shining stars, burning brighter than the sun; magnificent constellations; billions of spinning galaxies, all magnificent and vast, colorful and mysterious.  Yet, they are finite.  Brilliant, though they are, they fall utterly short in comparison to the breadth, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ.  His love, grace, kindness, wisdom, power, and mercy each stand as never-ending, infinite universes for all your affections to delight in.

Here’s the other cool bit.  If God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him, the ever-increasing enjoyment of God for all eternity will simultaneously become the ever-increasing glorification of Himself.  This is genius!

Now when you sing, “When we’ve been there ten thousand years,” you have no need of dread or doubt.  You will not be the same person as you once were.  After ten thousand years, you will look back and say, “How little I knew of Him then.  How much I have grown in my love for Him.  Yet, how much more I still have yet to know of His character!”  Further up and further into it you grow!

After ten thousand years, you will look back and say, “How little I knew of Him!”

C.S. Lewis once defined joy in this life as “an unsatisfied desire, more desirable than any satisfaction.”  I think he’s right.  God doesn’t want your hope to be in this life but in the life to come.  He wants you to long for your homecoming, when you meet Him face to face.  When you do this, you have access to a joy “more desirable than any satisfaction” here and now.  Pray, then, for an ever-increasing capacity to know and enjoy Him as you long for eternity.

God bless,

Mark

Jesus and Heaven

Jesus died on the cross to take away the sins of the world.  It was a necessary sacrifice.

But then, He arose – The resurrection makes all the difference in the world…He’s alive and I’m forgiven, Heaven’s gates are open wide.

11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying.  As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”  14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?  Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.  Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news:  “I have seen the Lord!”  And she told them that he had said these things to her.
John 20:11-18

Happy Easter to all who know Him!
